如果怀疑一个人患上了肛肠方面的疾病，那么可能需要做一个肛指检查，这样可以更为清晰地了解患者的患病情况，但是，对于肛裂患者而言，很多类似的检查都是不能进行的，因为这些检查项目可能会加重肛裂的病情，应该选用其他的方法。
肛裂患者不适合做什么检查呢
大多数肛裂患者为长期大便秘结的病人，肛裂的形成的原因主要是因大便硬结，便时又用力过猛，裂伤肛管皮肤，反复损伤使裂伤深及全层皮肤。肛管后正中部皮肤较固定，直肠末端位置由后方向前弯曲，因此肛门后方承受的压力较大，是肛裂的常见部位。粗暴的检查亦可造成肛裂。
肛裂多为单发的纵形、椭园形溃疡，反复损伤、感染，使基底较硬，肉芽灰白，裂下端皮肤因炎症、浅静脉及淋巴回流受阻，发生水肿，形成结缔组织性外痔，称“前哨痔”。肛裂上端肛乳头因炎症和纤维变，成肥大乳头。
肛指检查在许多肛肠疾病的诊断中都有很多的效果，而且操作简便，所以是肛肠科医生常用的检查方法之一。但任何事物都不是万能的，肛指也不例外。例如肛指就不能用于肛裂检查。
肛裂的典型症状是疼痛、便秘、出血。排便时干硬粪便直接挤擦溃疡面和撑开裂口，造成剧烈疼痛，粪便排出后疼痛短暂缓解，经数分钟后由于括约肌反射性痉挛，引起较长时间的强烈疼痛，有的需用止痛剂方可缓解。因此肛裂患者恐惧排便，使便秘更加重，形成恶性循环。
创面裂开可有少量出血，在粪便表面或便后滴血。检查时用双手拇指轻轻分开肛门口，即见溃疡面，新发生的肛裂边缘整齐、软、溃疡底浅，无疤痕组织，色红、易出血。慢性肛裂深而硬，灰白色，不易出血。裂口下方为“前哨痔”。
最后，专家指出，肛裂患者还可能出现肛门瘙痒等症状，如果患者因为痕痒难耐而无法控制自己的行为，那么不仅会加重肛裂的病情，也可能把肛门的病菌，带到我们的身体的其他部位，导致其他疾病的出现，所以，肛裂患者要学会如何控制自己的行为。
